Cortona is an Italian town of 22 104 inhabitants in the province of Arezzo, the main cultural and tourist center of the Arezzo Val di Chiana.
The surface of the municipal territory is the fourth largest in Tuscany (the second excluding the provincial capitals) and the 29th in Italy. Ancient lucumonia, part of the Etruscan dodecapolis, is located south of the province of Arezzo and south-east of the Tuscany region, on the border with the Umbria region.
Cortona is located on a hill about 600 meters above sea level.
As it was for the Etruscans, Cortona is still located in a strategic position that allows, with short trips, to reach important artistic and cultural centers.
